Identity design forIgarashi Takenobu Archive,
a hub for creative sensibility education.

Mission

The Igarashi Takenobu Archive at Kanazawa Institute of Technology is a learning facility dedicated to the research and practice of creative sensibility education, utilizing approximately 5,000 pieces and materials donated by designer and sculptor Takenobu Igarashi.
Incorporating two exhibition spaces, the Archive offers visitors opportunities to encounter unique perspectives and creative sensibilities.

At the request of Igarashi, we participated in the Archive launch project to oversee and create the graphic design.
The design needed to be developed with a deep understanding of the vision Mr. Igarashi entrusted to the Archive, while ensuring it was appropriate for a learning hub within the university.

Solution

Launched in the spring of 2020, the project was conducted almost entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
Alongside the development of the facility’s spatial design, meetings and presentations for the logo design were also carried out remotely.
The logo design was finalized through repeated discussions with Igarashi, ultimately taking the form of a simple, neutral mark that avoids stylistic bias.
Incorporated into the design is the “line” motif, a recurring element of Igarashi’s works. This line conveys a sense of conceptual space—inviting reflection and open interpretation—an idea closely aligned with the goals of creative sensibility education.
It was also envisioned as a design element that could add functionality and depth when applied across exhibitions and related materials.
MORI DESIGN worked on the graphic design of the exhibition, facility guide leaflet, promotional tools, the project’s official website, and the limited-edition book produced for the Archive’s opening.
Opened in November 2023, the Igarashi Takenobu Archive now hosts educational programs and workshops for students. It also continues to attract Igarashi’s fans from around Japan and abroad, holding several exhibitions each year.

On February 12, 2025, Takenobu Igarashi passed away.
We are deeply grateful for the many years of guidance and support he shared with us.
It was a true honor to be involved in this project.
 May he rest in peace.
